A near capacity crowd turned up on a blustery Glasgow night at the city's new uber-cool, west end venue, The Captains Rest to see Springfield, Missouri four piece and Polyvinyl favourites, Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin perform their summery, well crafted, tuneful sunshine pop.

Despite the crowd turnout one worried for a band relatively new to these northern shores in particular following two local favorites in Jesus H Foxx and Be a Familiar. However the band strolled on stage around 10pm and performed a 45 minute set filled with songs so well crafted, slick and energetic that by the end of the night the extremely sweaty crowd were still humming their melodies as they headed for the exits.

‘Modern Mystery‘, a ridiculously melodic and catchy track with beautiful harmonies and the set’s opener seemed to be a real crowd pleaser and its Beach Boys-esque breezy California surf like quality grabbed attention right from the off. Good choice in opening song. The next two or three followed suit and it was all very pleasant, then something surprising and unexpected happened; the band all changed instruments...

Bassist became drummer, Drummer became lead guitarist and took over vocal duties and the former front man became the bassist. All very impressive to look at but how will it sound? ...Well strangely it brought a whole new dimension to the band and the set up actually seemed to benefit their music, they were tighter and more energetic on stage and somehow their songs became even more enjoyable. ‘Glue Girls’ and ‘Think I Wanna die’ were the stand out tracks of a very pleasing set that for three-quarters of an hour at least helped us all forget we were leaving to Scottish rain and not California's sunshine. Great performance.
