Under Public Strain: Women Cancel Euro Tour
Albertan four-piece Women have cancelled all forthcoming shows, including a 24-date European tour that was due to culminate in London next month, after leaving the stage early at a Canadian gig on Saturday in what their manager has described as a "disastrous public conflict."
Canadian website Exclaim has the skinny: fist fights, announcement of intention to break up, threats to play solo sloppy metal... It's all there!
Women's manager and Flemish Eye (the band's Canadian home) boss, Ian Russell, revealed in a statement published on Jagjaguwar's blog (the band's UK/US home):
“With a heavy heart, we regret to say that the band Women is exhausted and in need of a break from touring. They have experienced a lot of stress recently, and this culminated in a disastrous public conflict on Friday. Band members have been suffering from poor health, and are in near-exhaustion; as of today, all upcoming shows have been cancelled.
We feel that it’s necessary to emphasize that this is a very difficult time for the band, and is not a trivial decision for a group that has spent as much time touring as they have. The band is a close-knit group of friends that have known each other since elementary school, and the personal health of these individuals forces this decision.
The band would appreciate some privacy as they sort things out and recover.”
As big, big fans of Women's latest effort, Public Strain, Ragged Words wishes them well.
