Just over a month on from the store’s closure, it still feels weird walking past Dublin’s Road Records and seeing the shutters pulled permanently down over the door. It’s fair to say that Irish music-lovers have lost not just a place to buy quality music, but a part of their identity, a meeting-point for like-minded souls.
But time marches on, and Dave and Julie say they are slowly starting to get used to their new life away from Fade Street. Before they move on completely, though, they’ve announced details of a farewell party gig taking place on Friday week (Sept. 10th) in The Button Factory. The lineup – assembled by their good friends at U:MACK – features several Road Records staff favourites from down through the years, including a one-off reformation appearance by cult nineties garage rock outfit Female Hercules. We’re told the night will run from 8 ‘til late, and will be rounded off by a no-holds-barred Road Records DJ set. Here’s hoping they kick out some Teenage Fanclub for us!
