Happy Valentine's Day From Radiohead!
Everyone knows that Thom Yorke is just a big ol' romantic at heart. And don't get us started on those Greenwood brothers - softies the pair of 'em! So, given the day that's in it, perhaps this morning's 'shock Radiohead announcement' (watch that one trending) that an entire album of new material from the band will be available before the week is out is just their way of telling us all how much they really, really love us. Sure beats a box of Milk Tray anyway!
The King of Limbs - The 'Head's first LP of brand new songs since 2007's similarly rush-released In Rainbows - will be released digitally this coming Saturday (February 19), with a physical 'newspaper version' set to follow on May 9. "What the hell is a newspaper version?", we hear you ask. Well, according to thekingoflimbs.com, the pretty fancy-sounding package will consist of the following:
- Two clear 10" vinyl records in a purpose-built record sleeve.
- Many large sheets of artwork, 625 tiny pieces of artwork and a full-colour piece of oxo-degradeable plastic to hold it all together.
Nothing says Happy Valentine's Day quite like oxo-degradeable plastic, we always find... No word yet on exactly how many of these "625 tiny pieces of artwork" will be glitter-encrusted love-hearts hand-painted by Yorke on his days off from collaborating with Flying Lotus. There's also no tracklisting available just now, but we'll be sure to update this here news post with one as soon as it hits our inbox. In the meantime you can have a gawk at The King of Limbs' artwork above and - assuming this morning's traffic-flow hasn't already crashed the site - pre-order the album, if you so wish, over here.
