David Prowse's (Japandroids) albums of the decade
This is probably the most emotionally powerful album I own. The songs are so strange and beautiful, like lullabies from outer space.. It has a special place in my heart. What a great record.
I listened to this album religiously when it came out. It just sounded so different from everything else I was liistening to and grabbed me. Such a great mix of emotion mixed with lush, orchestral arrangements. I love this album start to finish.
I saw Dan Boeckner's old band, Atlas Strategic, play a show while I was going to school in Victoria and I became a lifelong fan of everything he's ever done since. This is my favourite of all the stuff he's been involved in. The songs are so strong and there's such a great energy to the entire album.
Such great songs performed by such a devastating band. but the thing that really sets this apart for me is the way Bry Webb sings every song like it's the last one he'll ever si
There isn't another album that sounds like this. It's a mess of country and folk instrumentation mixed with hip hop beats and spoken word vocals about hobos, rivers, drifters and love. It is just plain weird, but I love it.
I saw the show when he came to town on this tour. I hadn't even heard this album, but I really loved the Michigan album, so I went. They played Illinois pretty much start to finish, and it was amazing. It's pretty rare that I'll be blown away by a live set not consisting of any material I've ever heard before. This album is a masterpiece.
This is the most beautiful, sensual, and uplifting record. I never really listened to much Bjork before Vespertine.. This album helped me realize what a visionary, talented woman she is and what amazing, unique records she has created.
I remember riding my bike around town all summer when this first came out, jamming it on my headphones and being so incredibly happy. This combines so many great elements - super catchy melodies, weird changes, call and response vocals, and awesome drum beats. I love this record so much.
I was a big fan of TV on the Radio after hearing Young Liars, but this record really did it for me. I could listen to that one piano part in "I Was a Lover" forever.
Gorgeous, heartbreaking, yet hopeful songs sung by a haunting voice. It is a crime that so few people know this band. The Shepherd is one of my top ten favourite songs.
