Sufjan Stevens

Petoskey, Michigan native Stevens began his musical life as a member of Marzuki (with now labelmate Shannon Stevens) and also played (and continues to play) various instruments for Danielson Famile. He concurrently recorded his debut solo album, A Sun Came, which he released on Asthmatic Kitty, a label he founded with his stepfather in 2000. Upon moving to New York, Stevens recorded Enjoy Your Rabbit a year later before embarking on the first of his 'fifty state project' Michigan in 2003. Seven Swans, a collection of previously recorded songs, followed and state number two, Illinois was struck off in 2005.  The Avalanche - a selection of b-sides from the latter and the self-explanatory Songs For Christmas were released in 2006.

After an uncharacteristic break, Stevens announced in mid 2009 that he is to release a revised version of the largely electronic Enjoy Your Rabbit and a duel CD-DVD of his BQE performance, a 30-minute composition originally played by Stevens and a backing symphony over three consecutive nights in 2007 at the BAM Opera House.
