Try claim that a more important band emerged from the nineties than lo-fi gods Pavement and you mightn't make too many friends round here. Initially conceived as a studio project between Stephen Malkmus and Scott Kannberg aka Spiral Stairs late in the previous decade, the eventual five-piece made an immediate mark, first with a couple of now highly collectible EP's and then 1992's defining debut Slanted & Enchanted. Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain raised expectation to Nirvana levels before the unfairly (initially) maligned Wowee Zowee dampened em. 1997's Brighten The Corners and 99's Terror Twilight rounded of a near perfect decade together.
