Papercuts

Brought up in a commune in Humboldt County, California, Jason Quever settled in San Francisco, initially recording piano tracks for fellow much-traveled trubadour Cass McCombs (Quever has since worked alongside Beach House, Vetiver and Casiotone For The Painfully Alone). His debuting work as Papercuts - Rejoycing Songs - was given only a limited release in 2000 before the more realised Mockingbird arrived in 2004. Three years later Can't Go Back was released on Devendra Banhart and Andy Cabic's Gnomonsong label to growing regard before You Can Have What You Want being granted a wider European release via Memphis Industries in 2009.

Review of Papercuts - You Can Have What You Want by Papercuts

It’s one of the oldest tricks in the book: put joy and pain in the ring and let them fight it out. Anyone who’s ever heard Burt Bacharach or The Smiths will know the power of combining the two in the same moment, and of using the tension between music and lyrics to hint at the...
