Of Greek-Welsh extaction, Marina & The Diamonds offered a refreshing contrast to 2009's other female pop pretenders - VV Brown, Little Boots, Florence & The Machine et all - when 'Obsessions' her fantasticly straight forward debut single was released on Neon Gold. The Crown Jewels EP followed in June, as did the hype. Come the end of the year that hype was going through the roof and a second place finish in the BBC Sound of 2010, her unfortunately disappointing debut The Family Jewels arrived on 679/Warners.
