The recording name of Londoner Florence Welch and company, Florence & The Machine made sporadic and at times shambolic appearances around the capital towards the end of 2007 before releasing debut single 'Kiss With A Fist' on Moshi Moshi in June 2008 and being well and truly hurled into the hype maching. The eye-opening good 'Dog Days Are Over', her first release for Island Records, was released in December with the ludicrous Brit Critics Choice Award following a month later. The fuss proved warented in the summer of 2009 when debut album Lungs entred the UK charts at number two (one in Ireland), received a Mercury nod and was backed up by some impressive festival slots.
