After initially gigging around San Francisco on his own, guitarist Maric Long was began playing with percussionist Logan Kroeber in 2005 and released the Dodo Bird EP under his own name early that year. Taking on the moniker of Dodo Bird, the pair self-released the album Beware Of The Maniacs in 2006 and after a year of relentless touring, at which time fans began simply calling them The Dodos, they changed their name accordingly. Their first album under the new name, and first with new label Frenchkiss - 2007's purposely mispelled Visiter - was a breakthrough online success, allowing both to tour the UK and Europe and release the album there through Wichita later in the year. The follow up - this time with new member Keaton Snyder - emerged soon after in the summer of '09.
