Bonnie Prince Billy

After his stints performing as Palace, Palace Songs, Palace Brothers, and under his own name throughout the '90s, by the end of the decade Will Oldham seemed to finally settle on the Bonnie "Prince" Billy moniker just in time for arguably his most important work 1999's I See A Darkness. Re-released on Domino in 2001 - the same year as Ease Down The Road- Odlham hit another career milestone in 2003 with Master and Everyone. The ever-steady stream of releases continued with Beware - the latest Bonnie Prince Billy record - arriving in 2009.

Review of Beware by Bonnie Prince Billy

Beware is, by my count, Will Oldham’s 6th solo album as Bonnie Prince Billy – after recording under the names Palace Music, Palace Brothers and his own, he seems to have long since settled in for the long haul under his royal pseudonym. The fact seems relevant, because there’s...

Review of Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy and the Cairo Gang - The Wonder Show of the World by Bonnie Prince Billy

Will Oldham leaves a long line of collaborators in his wake. Matt Sweeney, David Pajo, Tortoise, Dawn McCarthy of Faun Fables, his brother, Marquis de Tren. He picks them well and then casts them aside. Now it’s the turn of Emmett Kelly and Shahzad Ismaily of the Cairo Gang. Though at...

Caught Live: Bonnie 'Prince' Billy & The Cairo Gang @ Whelans, Dublin

Ambling onstage with a bath towel wrapped around his head for no particular reason, Will Oldham looks every bit the anti-rock star.
