In The Bag: Theoretical Girl
What is it called?
It is called Divided. A very to the point title! It’s meant to reflect the opposing nature of the music, the melancholy lyrics and upbeat music and the two very different kinds of songs I write, distorted and hostile or melodic and gentle. It also refers to that fact that most of my songs are about unrequited love or conflict!
Where, when and with whom was it recorded?
It was recorded by the multi-talented, Grammy-nominated and all-round good guy Andy Chatterley in his own amazing studio, the London Sound Laboratory. We recorded it over three months with me having to go to my job in the day and then fitting in as much as we could at night and at weekends! I also had the worst flu I’ve ever had which made recording the vocals pretty tricky! It was hard work and very intense but easily the best three months of my life!
What can we expect?
I made a conscious effort to do things properly! Before, my recordings have been a little shoddy and lo-fi, and although that definitely has it’s merits and I will probably go back to that sort of sound, this time I wanted to try something new. So the recordings are lovely and crisp and clear and much bigger sounding. I’ve gone through many stages as Theoretical Girl, folk, punk, pop, and I’ve tried to draw those stages together and make an album that reflects the different styles of music I love. There are songs that are just strings and my voice, then there are disco-synth songs, angry guitar-based songs and pure pop songs. So you can expect a mixed bag of songs for listeners that don’t tie themselves down to just one genre!
Any rough or final tracklising drawn up yet?

When will it leak!?
I’m actually amazed that it hasn’t already been leaked all over the internet by myself. I think I’ve been very restrained, which is out of character for me, I haven’t given copies to anyone! Yet.
